Arrests made in Assam in the east. The detainees are suspected of killing seven women and four men who, in their opinion, were engaged in witchcraft and black magic. Currently, police are still searching for a few more people involved in the killings.

Cases of witch-hunt in India are regularly reported. Basically, the hunted inhabitants of remote, rural and border areas who have no access to modern medical care. In such circumstances, residents blame their illnesses in the witches and sorcerers.

According to the organization Assam Mahila Samata Society, from September 2006 to May 2011 as a result of a witch hunt killed 39 people, most of them - were women. More than 70 people accused of witchcraft classes, were tortured. In just the last 15 years have been killed more than 2500 witches and sorcerers.
